BEFORE you use Bi-PegLyte talk to your doctor or pharmacist if:

• you have taken any other medication within one hour of when you plan to start the PEG/Electrolyte solution (you may be removing this medication from your gastrointestinal tract by taking the PEG/Electrolyte solution)

• you have abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting

• you have a history of electrolyte imbalance (e.g., hyponatremia) or are using diuretics

• you are pregnant or nursing

• you have difficulty swallowing or have a pronounced gag reflex or are prone to vomiting

• you have any allergies to this drug or its ingredients

  Talk to your doctor if you have kidney or heart problems, kidney impairment or heart failure or any tendency to regurgitate (bring up) food from your stomach into your esophagus or any tendency to accidentally inhale food or regurgitated food into the trachea (breathing tube to the lung).   How to properly prepare for your colonoscopy with Bi-PegLyte:

• The day before your colonoscopy, follow these simple steps: 1- Take 3 bisacodyl tablets (15 mg in total) with water at a time recommended by your physician. Do not crush or chew the tablets. 2- Prepare the PEG + Electrolytes solution as follows:

  • Dissolve the entire contents of one 70 g sachet in 1 litre (32 oz) of water and mix it rapidly until a clear solution forms. Do not add any other ingredients (e.g., flavouring) to the solution.

  • Refrigerate the solution to improve its taste.

  • Use the freshly-made solution within 48 hours and discard unused portion.

3 - Wait for a bowel movement. Don’t worry if no bowel movement occurs within 6 hours. After 6 hours (with or without bowel movement), begin to drink the solution. Rapidly drink a glassful (240 mL) of solution every 10 minutes, or as directed by your doctor. Make sure that you drink all of the solution. REPEAT the preparation instruction from Step 2 for the second 70 g sachet of PEG + Electrolytes, drinking 240 mL of solution every 10 minutes.

• You will begin to have watery bowel movements within one hour of starting to drink the solution and you will continue to have loose bowel movements for one to two hours after finishing the solution. Cleansing is complete when fecal discharge is clear

• Abdominal bloating or distension may occur before the first bowel movement. If your abdominal distension or discomfort continues, stop drinking the PEG + Electrolytes solution temporarily, or drink each 240 mL portion of the solution at longer intervals (more than 10 minutes) until your symptoms disappear

• If you experience severe bloating, distension or abdominal pain, you should slow down your drinking of the solution or temporarily stop, until the symptoms subside. Call your doctor to advise him/her of these symptoms

If you experience severe abdominal pain or rectal bleeding, call your doctor immediately.
